On May 7th 2020, a Thursday, I started a book called Detroit and Cherry. I began the book with a walk, from the Ohio/Michigan border to an intersection in urban Toledo. I took photographs and recorded notes. I had no fixed route. Ten minutes after I started, the sunrise began as the full moon set.
The theme of the book and the plot are still undetermined. However, I have a "mess" of nearly 30,000 words. I have been writing as much as possible since the walk; probably 12 hours a day. This will likely turn out to be a novella or a very long essay.
I have been inspired by:
Surrealism: Crossing/Frontiers by Elza Adamowicz
Newspaper Drumsticks by Tyler Dempsey
Sylvania, Lucas County, Ohio by Gayleen Gindy
As well as the fact that this is the first Spring I have experienced in my hometown in decades.
I will post more about this book when have some samples, or something to say.
Detroit and Cherry is published by Book Merah. A list of other Book Merah books is here.
