Stephen Black, NYC September 2021: The Persistent and Sharable Tour

The Facebook counterpart to this blog post is here. Most likely it will be the most up to date version of the tour.

I will be am back in NYC in September!

One goal of this month long stay is to create AR-based street art that shares my films, books, collaborations and visual art. Another goal is to create possibilities between the different communities, countries and cultures I have experienced. Examples include: Singapore, Japan, Bali, network television, the Lower East Side of NYC, the AR community, foodies of all kinds, fans of Bubiko Foodtour, artists, musicians and more.

I also want to publicize two books, that I have recently published: i ate tiong bahru(second edition) and a book of poems by Tyler Dempsey, called Newspaper Drumsticks.

RIGHT AFTER LANDING I MET, BY CHANCE, DYLAN MANNA! He helped me realize on of my goals! This idea was written down almost ten years ago...

Originally, I was planning to be in NYC in August, and I prepared this blog post. It is full of links and videos related to what I am doing in September.

Bubiko: First Flight. Directed and produced by Stephen Black. Technical support by Novaby and Augmented.City. Bubiko: First Flight is the first film to be made with location-based AR. It was made in Bari, Italy, which has the world’s largest AR testbed. The short film has been described as being as historic as the world’s first website.
Bubiko: First Flight can be seen at various outdoor locations in New York City during the month of September.
It is not being shown in theaters, however. The short film is only visible with a free app. The effect is like watching a hologram. Music by DJ Spooky, Antonello Arciuli, Mark Mothersbaugh and Bernie Heveron. Featuring choreography by Ezio Schiavulli and the Network Internazionale Danza PUGLIA

Lots of emotions felt while reading this. Tyler uses his brother’s words to create an incredibly vivid portrait of life in prison. Brotherhood is a uniquely strong bond, and I can only imagine the pain and heartache this experience has brought them. The poems are simple, yet remarkably powerful and touching.
Newspaper Drumsticks, toilet paper roses I will post more about this impressive mural on Broome Street later, but for now.. if you want to get in shape: https://conbody.com
